Land of Kimchi Day 1a

Welcome to Korea, Land of Kimchi!

It was a fuss-free tour group choice for this trip,
i) cos we don't speak Korean
ii) Koreans don't speak English/Chinese or much
iii) Navigation signs don't speak English
iv) Korean hospitality is infamous
v) We wanna catch up on sleep on chauffeured buses
vi) we just wanna be taken care of without a care in the world!

Day 1

We took an 11pm night flight to the Korea. It was a 7 hour flight to Seoul, and we reached at around 7am the next day, as Korea is GMT +9, which means it is an hour ahead of Singapore time. And... the best thing is that... it is cold!!!! After all the sweltering heat in Singapore, this was a welcome relief of around 11 degree Celsius! No sweat!

I like how this airport is organised in an extremely neat OCD way... haha

First stop, Kimchi making!
I was feeling jetlagging from really bad sleep on the plane and they asked us to make kimchi with pathetic looking mounts of cabbage.... Haaa.. poor cabbages looked totally massacred after we were done smearing chilli paste on them.
They presented us with super sweet, liquid ginseng milk too, which I think didn't quite agree with most of our taste buds.

I perked up almost immediately when it's costume wearing sessions! Yeah! I look like a thick round ball of pink cloth! I absolutely loved this costume! It is so different from the traditional hanbok that women wore, and it looked so much like what queens wore in period dramas right! The long front and back to conceal their hands...
.... then I realised after looking at a traditional promotional picture, a similar gown was wore by a small girl... bleah... I am after all a princess =)

9.30am, the sun was all bright and high up in the sky, but trust me, it's not sultry hot! I love the weather!

We were all such good students, listening to our tour guide describe to us the origins of this place =)

On the far right of the p'icture below, you see the Presidential Blue House of Korea, Cheong Wa Dae, which translate as pavilion of blue tiles" . It is the executive office and official residence of the South Korean head of state, the President of the Republic of Korea. At the front of it stands a rising pheonix

We didn't get to go in though, what a pity. No more than 1,300 persons may visit Cheongwadae each day, but it can be arranged. We were simply ushered to the Cheong Wa Dae Musuem, where we were given a tour.

It was finally lunch time! With metal bowls, chopsticks and spoons!

Famished after a 7am KFC breakfast at the airport, we had our first official Korean lunch! Huge huge chunks of juicy pork steak... droollll... wrapped in the fresh lettuce that you can never find in Singapore... it was awesomely delicious!

I love spring/summer with all the beautiful floral blooms!

I have had a holiday, and I'd like to take it up professionally.
