Land of Kimchi Day 4B

Jeju Island
Bright and early, up the mountain we go! Seongsan Sunrise Peak
A UNESCO Heritage site.
Very foggy, windy and cold.
Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago.
The crater looks like a gigantic crown.
Apparently, the sunrise from the crater is magnificent...
but we didn't get to see any sun at all, nor did we see any crater. Just hills and more hills.

This is how it should looked like...

This reminded me of topsy turvy land.

At first, I thought we were going Mt Halla, which got me pretty excited, because I saw the Ahjusi and Ahjuma clad in their mountaineer gear.

And I thought we were going to visit the shoot site for My Name is Kim Sam Soon.. but nope, that's another mountain. Ops

This is also the place where the Jeju women dived for a living.
The Jeju women were celebrated for their contribution to life on the island, as it is quite devoid of men who goes to work on the main island.

The sands there are quite different : dark, damp and "sinky".. and fun! We saw lots of students there, as they were on holidays, and the guys had a whale of time trying to chat them up.. haha.. in our broken Korean and their little English

The Guardian statues: Dolhareubangs can be seen everywhere on the island. They are reputed as sources of fertility and small replicas are sometimes given to women with fertility problems. Perhaps due the fact that Jeju is also known as 'honeymoon island' in present days. We were told to touch its nose if we wanted babies.. haha... because it resembles.. ahem.. a male anatomy..

Caught you there looking really hard at the eyes and nose, didn't I! Hahaha...

Found this structure, which reminds me very much of a miniature Stonehenge. Pretty!
